In commemoration of his first 100 days in office as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Professor Kehinde Dahud Shangodoyin has outlined key achievements under his watch, while expressing gratitude to Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for giving him the platform to serve.
Governor Makinde had redeployed Professor Shangodoyin from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on May 5, 2025, as part of a cabinet reshuffle.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Shangodoyin said the ministry’s accomplishments reflected an unwavering commitment to advancing energy access, infrastructure development, and regulatory reform in line with Governor Makinde’s vision for a sustainable and inclusive energy future in Oyo State.
According to him, one of the notable achievements in the last 100 days is the completion of high mast floodlight installations at Onipepeye and Circular Road Bridges 1 and 6 to enhance public safety, boost nighttime economic activities, and improve urban aesthetics.
On Bridge 1, he said 18 high mast floodlights powered by a 90KW solar farm, backed by a 60kVA diesel generator, have been installed. Similarly, Bridge 6 now has 19 high mast floodlights with a 100kW solar farm and a 60kVA diesel generator. At the Onipepeye Interchange, six high mast floodlights powered by a 60kW solar farm were installed, with a 60kVA generator serving as a temporary backup.
Shangodoyin also disclosed that an additional 3km of solar-powered street lighting was completed in the past 100 days across Alalubosa GRA, Aerodrome GRA, Inner City Roads, and other locations, bringing the total coverage under the initiative to 45km.
On operations and maintenance, he noted that a comprehensive framework was being finalized to ensure the long-term efficiency and reliability of all installations.
He further revealed that, in line with the Electricity Act and the devolution of regulatory responsibilities to states, the ministry had taken steps toward establishing a functional electricity market in Oyo State. A draft of the Oyo State Electricity Bill is ready and will soon be presented for stakeholder consultations to promote inclusivity, accountability, and regulatory excellence.
Shangodoyin added that the ministry’s legal and technical advisors had submitted a comprehensive report on the regulatory and institutional frameworks required to operationalize the electricity market, serving as a blueprint for future reforms and implementation strategies.
“These milestones within our first 100 days reaffirm the Ministry’s determination to build a resilient, efficient, and people-centered energy ecosystem for Oyo State,” he said. “We extend our deep appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, our development partners, dedicated technical teams, and the good people of Oyo State for their continued support.”
