Ibadan, Nigeria – Two men have been charged with conspiracy and murder after allegedly flogging a 22-year-old man to death with a “koboko” (a type of whip) in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan on Friday remanded 19-year-old Imole Dauda and 30-year-old Lateef Tajudeen in custody over the incident. The defendants are accused of unlawfully causing the death of Tosin Adenuga on May 10 at around 8:00 am in the Ilupeju area of Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Olalekan Adegbite, the duo allegedly flogged Adenuga all over his body with the “koboko,” leading to his death. The offenses are said to have contravened Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take the pleas of the defendants due to a lack of jurisdiction. She ordered the police to return the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and adjourned the matter until July 18 for mention.
