A four-year-old boy named Miguel Ovoke choked on a piece of meat during his lunch break at Brick Hall School in Abuja. The tragic events unfolded as the young child was eating a meal he had brought from home, which contained a large piece of meat.
According to the information gathered, as Miguel was swallowing the meat, he began to choke. Noticing the distress, the teacher immediately called for help. The school staff tried their best to dislodge the obstruction, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Alarmed, the school authorities rushed the unconscious child to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival. The boy’s parents expressed outrage, suspecting foul play, but a review of the school’s CCTV footage confirmed that Miguel had indeed choked on his food.
The grieving mother blamed the school, stating, “Brick Hall School Abuja killed my son. I took him to school that day in good health. The school said my son choked on his food (beef), but they told the doctor to announce that he died in the hospital. Nigerians, please help.”
A protest was staged at the school premises, and it was reported that the institution has been temporarily shut down as investigations continue.
This tragic incident has prompted an outpouring of condolences for the devastated parents, with many advising parents to take extra precautions when preparing their children’s meals, such as dicing the meat and deboning fish, to prevent similar devastating occurrences.
