President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided not to celebrate his 72nd birthday on March 29, 2024, in light of the economic difficulties faced by the nation. This announcement was made on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, in a press statement.
Normally, family members, friends, and associates would gather to commemorate such a significant occasion. However, due to the current challenges encountered by the country, President Tinubu has opted out of hosting any birthday event. He has also requested that his associates and well-wishers refrain from organizing any celebratory gatherings in his honor.
President Tinubu recognizes and appreciates the privilege of leading Africa’s foremost nation during this critical period. He is dedicated to improving the lives of the Nigerian people. Considering the recent tragic incidents, such as the loss of armed forces personnel in Delta State and security breaches nationwide, the President advises against any form of birthday celebration or the placement of birthday goodwill messages in media outlets.
Instead, President Tinubu encourages his friends and associates who wish to express their goodwill to donate the funds they would have spent on celebrations to charity organizations of their choice, in his name. He believes that this would be a more meaningful way to honor his birthday.
While acknowledging the bravery of the armed forces in rescuing kidnapped children in Kuriga, Kaduna State, and Sokoto State, the President intends to utilize his birthday as an opportunity for introspection and recommitment to the mission of constructing a more stable, secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
