The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called on purveyors of fake news to stop spreading lies about his origin.
Adams made the remarks during his 54th birthday celebration held in Lagos, describing the occasion as a moment of gratitude.
According to Wikipedia account, Gani Adams was born on April 30, 1970, at Arigidi-Akoko, presently known as Akoko north-west local government area of Ondo state.
While celebrating this year, he recalled how his birthday was marked during his 14-month detention under the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration.
As part of the celebrations, Adams announced the disbursement of ₦200,000 scholarships to the four best students studying the Yoruba Language in any Nigerian university. The beneficiaries were Omosanya Adefolaranmi (Ekiti State University), Fatiu Oladosu (Kwara State University), Adelowo Oyindamola (University of Ibadan), and Popoola Oluwatimileyin (University of Lagos).
Kofi Kartey, the Abolujiyan of Warri Kingdom who represented the Warri monarch, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, described the celebrant as an advocate and defender of human rights. He lauded the scholarship initiative, saying it would encourage the less privileged to be interested in education.
One of the scholarship recipients, Oyindamola, congratulated the monarch and appreciated his kind gesture for rewarding the best-performing students studying the Yoruba Language.
