Chief Ayodele Adebanjo, the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, has passed away at the age of 96. He died peacefully on Friday morning at his residence in Lekki, Lagos State.

His family confirmed the news in a statement signed by Mrs. Ayotunde Atteh (née Ayo-Adebanjo), Mrs. Adeola Azeez (née Ayo-Adebanjo), and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.

“Adebanjo, a distinguished lawyer, former Organising Secretary of the Action Group, and the national leader of Afenifere, is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” the statement read.
