…Warns them against maligning image of a global icon

A group, Campaign for Justice and Fair Play (CJFP), has slammed certain recalcitrant characters who have accused the astute Scholar and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina of being responsible for the arrest of Dr. Agbeleoba Samuel Opeyemi by the Department of State Security Services (DSS), saying fingering the respected Professor of Pedology for such petty things is a cheap blackmail and deliberate assault on the eminent personality of Prof. Fasina.

Dr. Agebeloba has been identified as the younger brother of Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, a senior staff of FUOYE who has been popular in the media for pointing accusing finger at the VC on sexual harassment against her.

●Prof. And Dr. (Mrs.) Fasina

Wondering why Prof. Fasina’s accusers on Agbeleoba could reason so low and ordinary as to level such cheap allegations against the architect of modern FUOYE, the group said the campaigners of calumny against the global icon – Prof. Fasina, have taken their game of deceit and treachery to a very ridiculous level.

Rising from their monthly meeting last Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the group in a statement signed by their leader, Chief Calistus Jemade, condemned in totality the media trial and distractions their actions have subjected the VC to.

Warning that the strange characters involved in the shameful act of accusing an innocent man should desist from such actions to avoid legal action, the group said: “We have watched with shock and dismay how certain strange and incorrigible characters have made it their wholesome business to continue to attack the erudite scholar and scientist of global reckoning, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, with an evil aim of tarnishing his hard earned reputation on the alter of sentiments and apparent evil malice.

It is disheartening and disgusting for some elements to take to the social media and say unspeakable and shameful things against this great man who has painstakingly built for himself, over the years, an enviable and intimidating academic and professional credentials that should rather be celebrated.

It is rather too petty to accuse Prof. Fasina of masterminding the arrest of Dr. Agbeleoba even when the DSS has been quoted in the media that the man in question was arrested for violating some cyber law crimes against an establishment of government. Are these accusers so uneducated, unsophisticated and unenlightened to realize that the DSS as an agency of government will surely have a justifiable reason to arrest or invite anyone?

It is clearly uncivilized to rush to blame the VC for a lawful duty the DSS had performed. Such amounts to very cheap and ugly blackmail against the eminent personality of Prof. Fasina.

While we totally condemn this despicable act, we warn the accusers to stop acting indecorously and embrace civility by allowing the DSS as an arm of the government to perform their duty.

Prof. Fasina remains a global icon in the world of science and no amount of blackmail and smear campaign can damage his great reputation.

The Governing Council of the University has since done the needful by constituting a probe panel on the allegations of sexual harassment against the VC and this is the right step in the right direction. Decorum must be maintained till the end of this whole matter is reached.
