An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has warned Oba Solomon Akinola, the Oloko of Oko, that he may face contempt of court charges for continuous trespass on a disputed land.
Justice K.A. Adedokun issued the warning after the prosecution presented photographic evidence showing that the defendants were still encroaching on the disputed land, despite the court not having awarded it to them.
The prosecution, Mr. I.O. Abdulazeez, also stated that the people of Aagba village were having their lives threatened by the defendants.
It is recalled that Oba Solomon Akinola and 14 others have been facing a 29-count charge bordering on land grabbing, conspiracy, attempted murder, robbery, and assault since November 2023.
The other defendants include Chiefs Sunday Aderinto, Jimoh Asimiyu, Timothy Aderinto, Matthew Akintaro, Rafiu Ganiu, Adejare Adeleru, Samson Ogunmola, Zachiaus Adeleru, Kamorudeen Ajibade, Raji Rasaq, Mutiu Arowosaye, Oyeyemi Oyelekan, Olusegun Oyelekan, and Sheriff Adio.
During the trial, Dr. Isaac Abiodun, the Chief Executive Officer of Tropical Culture Farm Limited, testified that Oba Akinola had instructed his men to invade his farm and the Aagba village, leaving him to narrowly escape with his life.
Abiodun stated that he had petitioned the Inspector General of Police in 2021 regarding Oba Akinola’s invasion of the farm and Aagba village, leading to the case being transferred to the Oyo State Ministry of Justice for prosecution.
The prosecution also presented audio and video evidence, as well as medical reports, to support the victims’ claims of the attack.
The judge has adjourned the matter until October 23 for the commencement of the defense.
