The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning yet again following the tragic loss of veteran Yoruba actor, Ibrahim Chatta’s son.
The 55-year-old Nollywood star broke the heartbreaking news in the early hours of Saturday via his Instagram page. Sharing a solemn photo of his late son, Chatta wrote:
“Inna liLlahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things. Rest on, Dear Son. Champ .”
Although he confirmed the loss, Chatta did not disclose the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.
The devastating development comes only days after Nollywood was hit by the painful death of actress Peju Ogunmola’s only child, Ayomikun, compounding the grief within the industry.
Ibrahim Chatta, revered for his versatility as an actor, producer, director, singer, and writer, has faced deep personal tragedies in the past. In a previous interview, he recounted losing his first child—a baby girl—because he could not afford her hospital bills at the time.
Widely celebrated for his outstanding performances in Yoruba movies, Chatta has remained one of Nollywood’s most respected talents, with a career spanning decades.
Fans, colleagues, and sympathizers have since flooded his social media with words of condolence and prayers for strength during this difficult time.
