In a startling turn of events, armed men dressed in military camouflage attire launched an attack on the Oyo State Government Secretariat today. Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense, with the armed individuals surrounding the administrative building and causing panic among government workers and residents in the vicinity.
The attackers, whose motive remains unknown, targeted the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly complex. The incident occurred during a period when the secretariat is unoccupied due to a break. Reports indicate that the assailants concealed their identities by covering their faces with masks and scarfs.
Law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the situation, with police officers stationed at the Governor’s Office, members of the South-West Security Network (Amotekun), and additional security personnel collaborating to confront the intruders. The armed individuals arrived at the secretariat in buses, allegedly brandishing a flag believed to be associated with a particular group of agitators.
Gunshots reverberated in the vicinity as security agents engaged the suspected criminals. A significant deployment of security forces, including soldiers, swiftly arrived at the scene, sealing off all access points to the secretariat. Traffic in the area has been redirected away from the incident site. At present, it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
As of now, neither the Oyo State Government nor the police authorities have issued any official statements regarding the attack on the secretariat.
