Bobrisky, the popular Nigerian crossdresser, will be housed in the male section of a prison facility during his six-month imprisonment, according to officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service. This decision was made after Bobrisky confirmed in court that he identifies as a male. The prison officials have also assured that Bobrisky will be protected from any potential sexual assault from other inmates.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court sentenced Bobrisky to jail on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of currency abuse. Despite Bobrisky’s public portrayal of transitioning to a female, his self-identification as a man in court determined his placement within the facility’s male section.
The correctional spokesperson emphasized the importance of respecting what was submitted in court, stating, “Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court.” Additionally, the spokesperson assured that Bobrisky would be safeguarded from potential sexual violations, stating, “He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection.”
Bobrisky, who boasts a following of five million on Instagram, has continually shared content suggesting his transition to a female. In one of his Instagram posts, he stated, “My journey transitioning into a woman has been going smooth, no health issues, everything is going smooth for me.”
