The Ikoyi Custodial Centre has confirmed the gender of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, following a detailed examination upon his admission. Bobrisky, who was recently sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse, declared himself as a male during court proceedings. Prison officials have treated Bobrisky like any other inmate and have provided him with appropriate accommodation and amenities.
A top official from the Ikoyi prison facility affirmed that Bobrisky’s genital status was thoroughly assessed, and no signs of gender realignment or alteration were discovered. The examination results confirmed that Bobrisky displayed typical male biological features. The prison has assigned a cell to Bobrisky and has ensured his safety alongside other inmates.
Concerns had initially arisen regarding Bobrisky’s safety due to his sexual orientation. However, prison officials have guaranteed his protection, stating that male inmates will safeguard him from any potential sexual assault. The Nigerian Correctional Service spokesperson added that they would respect Bobrisky’s self-declared gender as submitted in court.
