A young boy who gained national fame during the 2023 general elections for stopping the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is now in detention at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos. The once-celebrated figure is facing allegations of theft and involvement in a street fight.
The boy, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was reportedly arrested while returning from work. According to local sources, some residents accused him of stealing and participating in a public altercation. He was apprehended by the police and arraigned in court, where he was subsequently remanded in custody.
The case has since caught the attention of social media users. Nurudeen Hassana, an X (formerly Twitter) user who goes by the handle @Hausa_girl, shared updates about the boy’s legal situation, stating that she accompanied his mother to a court session at Orege Court in Ajegunle on March 27, 2025.
The hearing, however, was adjourned to April 28 as the court awaits a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“Do you guys remember this picture? Well, the boy in front of this convoy is languishing in Kirikiri prison,” Hassana posted, alongside a photo of the viral moment from the election campaign. “I’ve spoken with his mother, and we also went to his last court hearing… Case file is currently at DPP. The boy is innocent… he’s just a victim!”

Hassana also shed light on the boy’s struggles after receiving widespread attention and monetary donations during the election period. She claimed that public expectations and pressure may have played a role in his recent troubles.
“He’s suffering from the entitlement people had when he was gifted money during the last election,” she added.
As the court awaits legal advice from the DPP, the young boy’s fate remains uncertain. Advocates online are now calling for a fair investigation and urging authorities to consider the broader context of his story—a tale that began with hope but now hangs in the balance.
