Pandemonium broke out along Lasu- Igando road on Friday after a bus conductor murdered a passenger over an old N500 notes argument.

The passenger who is identified as Michael was heading toward Lasu Ojo road on assignment when he met his untimely death following a heated argument with the bus conductor who insisted on rejecting the old N500 note. But Michael stated in clear terms that he had nothing left on him to pay his fare.

Both men then engaged in heated argument until the conductors reached for an old bottle, smashed it on a brick, and reached for Michael’s neck. Michael never survived the stabbing and all efforts to salvage his life ended in futility as he bled to his death.

An eyewitness named Monisola said youths around the area immediately grabbed the conductor in a desperate attempt to burn him alive but members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (Agberos) fought them to a standstill and rescued the bus conductor.

“It was a terrible experience, to say the least. How can you stab someone over old N500 note? This naira redesign has caused more than good, and our government must find lasting solutions to avoid a worst-case scenario,” Monisola told iwitnesslive.com

Things went from bad to worse as youths pounced on any commercial on the site and burned them ashes.
Normalcy is gradually returning to Igando as at press time.
