In a twist to the investigation into the death of popular Nigerian singer Promise Aloba, known by his stage name Mohbad, the pathologist who conducted the autopsy on his body has told the coroner’s inquest that the cause of death could not be ascertained.
According to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Wahab Shittu, who was present in court for the continuation of the inquest on May 15th, the pathologist stated that by the time the tests were carried out, Mohbad’s body had already decomposed significantly.
“According to him, the cause of death cannot be determined. He gave a lot of reasons. He said by the time they conducted the test, the body had decomposed and that it was not possible for them to determine the cause of death,” Shittu told reporters after the court session.
The pathologist, however, suggested that Mohbad’s death may have been related to a reaction to certain drugs administered to him prior to his demise. “He also went further to say that it may be attributed to reaction to certain drugs administered on him before he died. Again he then qualified that to say he does not know whether it is those drugs that actually led to his death,” Shittu added.
The 27-year-old singer had died in controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the next day in Ikorodu. His body was later exhumed on September 21 for the autopsy to be conducted.
Shittu also revealed that the court heard testimony about the late singer’s reported disagreements with his wife, Wunmi, as well as with an individual named Sam Larry, though the details of these disputes were not immediately clear.
With the pathologist’s inability to conclusively determine the cause of Mohbad’s death, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s passing remains shrouded in uncertainty, leaving his fans and the public seeking more answers.
