The Campaign for Justice and Fair Play (CJFP) has alleged that the SSANU Women’s Committee is behind a coordinated and well-funded effort to remove the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina. According to CJFP, this scheme is driven by vested interests seeking to undermine Fasina’s leadership and disrupt the university’s progress.
The controversy arises from an allegation of sexual harassment made by a university staff member, Folashade Adebayo, against Professor Fasina. CJFP contends that despite the absence of concrete evidence or a formal written complaint substantiating these claims, the SSANU Women’s Committee has persistently pushed for the Vice-Chancellor’s removal. Their efforts intensified during a recent meeting at the 50th National Council gathering of SSANU, held at the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Following this gathering, the committee released a statement demanding Fasina’s immediate dismissal.
Speaking on behalf of CJFP, Chairman Chief Calistus Jemade described the campaign as a politically motivated attack aimed at discrediting a leader who has made significant strides in improving FUOYE. “This is a calculated effort to seize control of the university’s leadership by any means necessary,” Jemade asserted. “These individuals are not seeking justice; they are pursuing self-interest and power.”
CJFP has called on FUOYE’s Senate, alumni, staff, and students to rally behind the Vice-Chancellor and resist attempts to sow discord within the institution. “Professor Fasina is a dedicated reformer and a strong advocate for staff welfare. Any attempt to undermine his leadership should be met with firm opposition from all who value FUOYE’s progress,” Jemade emphasized.
The organization has also urged the Chairman of the Governing Council and its members to take swift and decisive action to counteract misinformation. CJFP warned that if divisive tactics are allowed to persist, the stability and future of FUOYE could be at risk. The group called for immediate intervention to protect the integrity of the university and ensure that due process is followed in addressing the ongoing investigation.
