Islamic cleric Sheikh AbdulWaheed AbdulHammeed has called on Muslims to strictly adhere to Islamic principles on inheritance distribution to avoid divine repercussions.
Speaking as the guest lecturer at the 9th Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by The Criterion, an association of Muslim women in business and professions, AbdulHammeed emphasized the importance of following Quranic injunctions on inheritance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lecture, titled “Accessing and Implementing Islamic Jurisprudence on Inheritance in Contemporary Nigeria: Prospects, Challenges, and Mitigation,” explored the significance of applying Islamic inheritance laws in modern society.
AbdulHammeed warned against neglecting Islamic guidelines in favor of personal preferences, stressing that the prescribed system promotes fairness, equity, and familial unity.
“The proper way of distributing inheritance is as outlined in the Quran by God, not according to individual desires,” he stated.

Addressing Challenges in Inheritance Distribution
In her remarks, Prof. Morufat Balogun, Ameerah of The Criterion, Oyo District, noted that the lecture aimed to enhance spiritual growth during Ramadan while addressing societal challenges related to inheritance.
She highlighted that disputes over asset distribution have led to family conflicts, financial instability, and even violence, often due to a lack of knowledge on proper procedures.
“Death is inevitable, and transferring assets to heirs has become a major source of conflict. This lecture seeks to clarify inheritance issues and provide solutions based on Quranic teachings,” she said.
Call for Preparation and Compliance
Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju, urged Muslims to prepare for the afterlife by ensuring proper estate planning and educating their heirs to prevent legal battles.
He reiterated that Islam provides comprehensive guidance on all aspects of life, including inheritance distribution, and emphasized the need for compliance with divine instructions.
Distinguished Guests
The event was attended by notable personalities, including former Oyo State Head of Service, Alhaja Amdalat Agboola, and the wife of the former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Prof. Hamdalat Olaniyan.
