Dr Ibrahim Adelani, an Islamic scholar and Vice-Principal, Madrasah Da’wah Al-Islamiyah (Islamic Da’wah School), Ibadan, says combination of Islamic and western education will reduce decadence in the society.
Adelani said this while speaking with newsmen during the 50th anniversary celebration of Islamic Da’wah School on Wednesday in Ibadan.
He said the decadence witnessed in the society was because people don’t have the fear of God, adding that having Islamic education with that of the western would instill fear of God and guide any individual aright.
“My message to parents is that they should send their children to learn both Islamic and western education because of its relevance and positive impact it will have in the society.
“The knowledge gained in both will serve as guidance to students and will be of tremendous benefits to the society and the new generation of Nigeria.
“Having Islamic knowledge will guide one on how to be honest, truthful and relate with others in the society and as well prevent one from engaging in bad habit,” Adelani said.
Speaking about the school, the scholar said their late father Allhaji Bello Adelani, who founded the school in 1974, started with 74 students and four teachers.
He said the school from its established had graduated a lot of students who were contributing positively to the society in their various fields of endeavours.
“I also graduated from this school and serving as role model to the students,” he said.
According to him, the Islamic school is free except payment for books and still maintain its role till date, urging for financial support from well-meaning Nigerians.
Also speaking ,the Chairman planning Committee of the anniversary, Dr Jamiu Soladoye, called for the support of government to owners of private schools especially religion schools.
Soladoye, who said he graduated from the school in 1988, added that lack of religion knowledge was one of the factors responsible for decadence in the society.
He urged students not to be too hasten and focused on their studies while in school while thinking on how to contribute meaningfully to the country in future. NAN
