Barely 24 hours after regaining her freedom, Miss Comfort Emmason, the young woman at the centre of the recent Ibom Air in-flight altercation controversy, has shared an emotional message reflecting on her first moments outside prison.
In a heartfelt post titled “My First Day After Freedom – What I Did First”, Emmason recounted the overwhelming emotions she felt when the prison gates opened.
“When those prison gates opened, I didn’t rush, I didn’t shout — I just stood still for a moment and took a deep breath. The air felt different. The sky looked brighter. The world seemed… new,” she wrote.
Emmason revealed that her first act upon stepping out was to kneel and thank God, expressing gratitude for what she described as a divine turnaround in her life.
“Lord, I walked in here in tears, but I’m walking out in Your grace,” she recalled saying in prayer.
She also described the tearful hugs and warm embrace she received from friends and loved ones who came to welcome her, noting that it reminded her that “love is one of the greatest freedoms.”
The former detainee stated that she wasn’t immediately concerned about food, clothes, or her phone, but instead felt her heart overflowing with gratitude for her newfound freedom.
“I was finally free. And that was enough for me,” she added.
Her post, tagged with hashtags such as #FromShameToFame, #GodOfTurnaround, and #FreshStart, has since gone viral on social media, attracting messages of encouragement and support from Nigerians and admirers across the globe.
Emmason’s release follows a widely publicised case in which she was accused of unruly behaviour and assaulting a flight crew member on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos. The charges were withdrawn after intervention from high-profile figures, including the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.
For Emmason, the chapter may have closed on her legal ordeal, but her words suggest she is opening a new one — centred on faith, gratitude, and a fresh start.
