In a deeply emotional moment, controversial musician Portable was seen weeping as he apologized to a pastor he had recently slapped for preaching outside his Lagos bar. The incident has sparked significant backlash, prompting calls for the artist to seek forgiveness from the itinerant evangelist.
A viral video emerged showing Portable visibly upset, surrounded by supporters who attempted to comfort him. “Your success will not dip,” one woman could be heard reassuring him as he expressed his regret for the altercation.
“I am truly sorry and I urge all men of God to forgive me,” Portable stated, acknowledging the gravity of his actions.
The incident has drawn warnings from fellow artists, including gospel musician Testimony Jaga, who referenced the downfall of another artist, Terry G, following a similar altercation with a pastor. Jaga recounted how Terry G, at the height of his career, slapped a pastor after a minor traffic incident, a move Jaga claimed marked the beginning of Terry G's decline in the music industry.
“He slapped a man who didn’t retaliate, just like the man you (Portable) slapped did nothing. Where is Terry G today?” Jaga questioned, emphasizing the consequences of such actions.
Furthermore, Jaga criticized Portable for taking the law into his own hands, highlighting the respect he believes individuals should have for religious figures. “He cannot even try that with a Babalawo (herbalist),” he remarked, urging Portable to make amends swiftly to avoid further repercussions.
