In a shocking incident in Delta State, a 24-year-old woman has been arrested for killing her one-year-old son. The incident was reported to the Delta State Police Command on April 28, 2024.
According to the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, the suspect, Sofia Nkwo, from Isoko South Local Government Area, dumped her child in a well along the road in Araya community Isoko South LGA on April 26, 2024. The child's body was discovered by children who were playing around the area.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that she killed her son because the child's father had rejected him, and she could no longer care for the child.
"I killed him because I can't cater for him again since the father has long rejected him," Nkwo said.
The police also paraded other suspects, including a 45-year-old man, Chiemenam Adigwe, who was arrested for producing fake alcoholic drinks. According to the commissioner, the suspect was mixing ethanol with water and adding flavour to it, then packaging the fake drinks in empty bottles of popular brands.
The police also addressed the ongoing issue of kidnappings and killings of farmers in the Ika North-East and Ika South areas of the state. The commissioner stated that the command has deployed personnel to the area and is working with the Edo State Command to address the security situation, as the area is on the border between Delta and Edo states.
The tragic incident of the 24-year-old woman killing her own child has left the community in shock and the police vowing to bring the perpetrator to justice.
