Chaos erupted in the Iwofun area of Odigbo Local Government Area on the morning of Friday, September 20, 2024, as a farmer identified as Monday was accused of fatally stabbing his friend, known affectionately as Aboki, over a disputed debt of N2,000.
Witnesses reported that the altercation stemmed from an ongoing disagreement about a larger debt of N7,000 that Monday owed Aboki. Tensions flared on Wednesday when Aboki inquired about the repayment, leading to a physical confrontation that attracted the attention of nearby residents seeking to intervene.
“A fight broke out when Aboki pressed for his money, and during the scuffle, Monday managed to pay N5,000 of the debt, leaving a remaining balance of N2,000,” one resident recounted. “The argument escalated again when Aboki asked about the outstanding amount, which resulted in Monday stabbing him.”
Following the shocking incident, Monday apprehended, who is now in police custody as investigations continue. The community remains in disbelief over the violent aevents linked to a seemingly trivial financial dispute.
