The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a young man named Jeremiah in connection with the abduction and murder of Damilola, a first-year Biology student at the Federal University Lokoja. Jeremiah, hailing from Kaduna State and also a student, claimed he was in Kogi for work when he lured Damilola to an uncompleted building, where he kidnapped her.
After abducting Damilola, Jeremiah demanded a ransom of ₦400,000 from her family. Despite receiving the payment, he did not release her and reportedly strangled her upon realizing she had seen his face. He subsequently mutilated her body and buried it in a remote area of Lokoja.
In a troubling video that has circulated on social media following his arrest, Jeremiah confesses to his crime, referring to it as his “first time.” He initially demanded a sum of ₦10 million from Damilola's family before the police were able to track him down and apprehend him.
On September 12, 2024, Jeremiah guided law enforcement to the site where he buried Damilola's remains. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that several of her organs, including her heart, lungs, and private parts, were missing. While Jeremiah denied any involvement in the removal of the organs and insisted he acted alone, police expressed skepticism regarding his claims and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
