Johannesburg police have arrested five suspects—two women and three men—following an armed robbery in the Orange Grove area.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, March 2, 2025, around 6:45 AM. A distressed man approached Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers at a BP filling station on Louis Botha Avenue, reporting that he had been robbed.
According to the victim, five assailants in a red Volkswagen Jetta confronted him at the intersection of 7th Street and Louis Botha Avenue, stealing his money and cellphones before transferring funds from his bank account using his devices.
Acting swiftly, officers took the victim to help identify the suspects and their vehicle. With assistance from private security, JMPD CCTV operators, Tactical Response Units (TRU), and the South African Police Service (SAPS), authorities tracked the vehicle to a Pick ‘n Pay in Bramley View.
The suspects were found inside the shopping center and arrested without incident. Officers recovered the stolen items during the operation.
The suspects are now in custody at Norwood SAPS, facing charges of robbery and possession of stolen property. They are expected to appear in court soon.
