Onitsha, Nigeria – A trader in Onitsha Market broke down in tears after her shop was allegedly looted by individuals claiming to be officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
In a viral video circulating on social media, the distraught woman can be heard crying and lamenting that her shop, which is a boutique, was ransacked during what was supposed to be an enforcement raid. She questioned why NAFDAC, an agency responsible for regulating food, drugs, and related products, would target her boutique.
“NAFDAC has looted my shop! They took everything! I run a boutique, what does NAFDAC have to do with my business?” she wailed in the video.
Eyewitnesses in the market expressed shock and confusion over the incident. Some traders alleged that the raid may have been carried out under false pretenses, calling for an investigation into the actions of the supposed officials.
NAFDAC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations. However, concerned traders and members of the public are demanding accountability and urging authorities to verify whether those responsible were genuine NAFDAC personnel or impostors taking advantage of regulatory enforcement exercises.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many questioning the conduct of regulatory bodies during enforcement operations. Traders in Onitsha Market are now calling on authorities to ensure that due process is followed in future raids to prevent similar occurrences.
