Captain J.O. Abalaka (N/15198) has been freed after confronting and disarming a member of the kidnapping gang that had abducted him in Kogi State. The daring incident took place last week on the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road as Abalaka was en route to his new post at the Maiduguri Command in Borno State from the 29 Battalion in Port Harcourt.
While driving his Toyota Corolla with his dog, Abalaka was intercepted and taken captive by armed men. Showing great courage, the Army captain fought back, seizing an AK-47 from one of the kidnappers. He then confronted the other members of the gang, liberating himself, his dog, and the other victims. Among the items recovered were a locally made Barretta pistol, a magazine, and 5× 9mm ammunition.
A military signal obtained by SaharaReporters detailed the incident and the heroic actions of Captain Abalaka, who managed to free himself and others from the clutches of the kidnappers.
