Nigerian celebrity crossdresser Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while trying to escape the country at the Seme border. This incident occurred as Bobrisky faces ongoing investigations by the House of Representatives over serious bribery allegations involving officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The news was shared by social media activist Martin Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), in an Instagram post on Monday. VDM disclosed that Bobrisky was detained as he attempted to cross into the neighboring Benin Republic. According to a message shared by VDM, Bobrisky reportedly sent someone to assist him in signing his international passport and hid in a vehicle at the time of his arrest.
In the video posted by VDM, he stated, "Bobrisky was arrested this morning at Seme border post while trying to escape to Benin Republic. The Nigerian Immigration Service is currently holding him."
VDM has called on both Bobrisky and the NIS to clarify the situation surrounding the arrest and address the circulating rumors.
This development comes ahead of Bobrisky's scheduled appearance before a legislative panel, following previous invitations related to leaked audio recordings in which he allegedly confessed to bribing his way out of prison, aided by a powerful associate. The recordings also include claims of a money laundering case against him that was allegedly dropped by the EFCC.
As of now, Bobrisky has not publicly responded to the claims regarding his arrest or the ongoing investigations into his activities.
