Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has made the decision to open the country's land and air borders with the Republic of Niger, while also lifting sanctions against the nation.
The directive is in line with the decisions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during an extraordinary summit held on February 24, 2024, in Abuja.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, released a statement confirming the directive.
It should be noted that ECOWAS leaders had previously agreed to lift economic sanctions against the Republic of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. President Tinubu's decision to comply with the ECOWAS decision means that the sanctions imposed on the Republic of Niger will be immediately lifted.
