In a disturbing incident in Betem, Biase Local Government Area, Cross River State, a local businessman has been apprehended by community youths for the alleged rape of a one-year-old girl.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 10, 2024, when the girl, who is the daughter of a recently arrived tenant, was playing with the suspect's seven-year-old son. According to community sources, Mr. Nsikak, a businessman from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly lured the girl to a secluded area and assaulted her.
Following the alleged act, the child was found in distress and still bleeding. Mr. Nsikak is said to have fled to his farm in the aftermath. However, local youths tracked him down and confronted him. In a bid to evade responsibility, he allegedly offered them a bribe to go silent on the matter, which they firmly rejected, subsequently turning him over to law enforcement authorities.
Mr. Nsikak is now in police custody as investigations continue, while the injured child has been taken to a local cottage hospital in Biase for medical care. The community remains in shock as they await further developments in this harrowing case.
