A clash between operatives of the Amotekun Corps and herders has left several people injured in Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Friday in Igoba Town, Akure Local Government Area, after over 120 cows allegedly destroyed a tomato farm worth millions of naira.
According to reports, the Amotekun operatives were in the process of moving the arrested cows, which were feeding on the tomato farm, to the corps' headquarters in Akure, when they were confronted by a group of herders along the Akure-Igoba-Ado Ekiti Road.
The Public Relations Officer of the Amotekun Corps, Jimoh Adeniken, confirmed the clash, stating that one of the Amotekun officers was injured and went into a coma while attempting to disarm the officers and men of the corps. Other officers also sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.
Adeniken added that the owners of the cows have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing by the corps.
The incident comes just a few months after the Ondo State Government signed the Anti-Grazing Bill into law on August 31, 2021, which prohibits open grazing in the state.
