In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 64 suspected internet fraudsters in Osun State. The operation, which took place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, was conducted based on actionable intelligence about the suspects' alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.
The suspected cybercriminals were apprehended in the town of Ede, Osun State. During the operation, the EFCC investigators seized a significant amount of evidence, including 18 luxury vehicles, 18 laptops, 112 mobile phones, three PlayStation gaming consoles, five motorcycles, and various other incriminating documents.
Commenting on the arrests, an EFCC spokesperson stated, "This operation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to combat the scourge of cybercrime in our society. We will continue to relentlessly pursue and apprehend those who engage in fraudulent activities, and ensure they face the full wrath of the law."
The arrested individuals are currently in EFCC custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Upon the completion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court to answer for their alleged crimes.
