The Enugu State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a notorious native doctor, Levi Onyeka Obu, popularly known as “As e de play, e dey show,” after the discovery of two corpses and the rescue of a 13-year-old girl from a property linked to him.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ekeneagu, the incident unfolded in the early hours of May 27, 2025, when operatives from the Umumba Police Division, working alongside local Neighbourhood Watch teams and vigilant community members, stormed a shrine located in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The operation led to the rescue of the young girl, who had allegedly been abducted for ritual purposes. Authorities say she was only moments away from being murdered before the timely intervention. In the course of the operation, officers arrested three suspects: Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38).

The prime suspect, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, also known by the aliases “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” managed to escape and remains at large.

Shocking discoveries were made at the site, including two decomposing corpses—one male and one female—found buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an unfinished building used as a shrine. Investigators believe the victims were recently killed as part of ritual practices.

In response to the revelations, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings used by the suspect in connection with the alleged criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who visited the crime scene, praised the swift action of the police and community members. He directed tactical units and intelligence teams to intensify efforts to apprehend the fugitive and any accomplices.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served and will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of all involved,” CP Giwa affirmed.
