Eight days after receiving a pardon from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Sunday Omisakin, a former inmate, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Facility. Omisakin faces allegations of burglary and theft after reportedly breaking into a residence in Osogbo on January 3, 2025, and stealing a plasma television valued at ₦600,000.
Omisakin was among those granted clemency for minor offences by the governor on December 26, 2024. However, his recent arrest has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his pardon.
The Nation reports that Omisakin was arraigned before Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba at the Osun State Magistrate Court. Police prosecutor Inspector Kayode Adeoye alleged that Omisakin unlawfully entered Shittu Damilare's home in the Al-Medinat Area, Osogbo, around noon on the day of the alleged crime.
Despite pleading not guilty, Omisakin's bail request, presented by his counsel, Najite Okobe, was denied. The prosecutor argued against bail, emphasizing that Omisakin had only recently been pardoned without completing his previous sentence. Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba upheld the prosecution's objection, citing the gravity of the charges, and ordered his remand pending further court proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to January 10, 2025, for a bail hearing, with additional proceedings set for February 2025. The allegations against Omisakin violate Sections 411(1)(2), 363, and 390(9) of the Osun State Criminal Code of 2002.
