The Federal Government and Organised Labour have come to a resolution regarding the National Minimum Wage, with the commitment to set it above N60,000. Following the intervention of the National Assembly and a meeting held on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, both parties have agreed to work towards a higher minimum wage.
Key resolutions reached during the meeting include the commitment from the President of Nigeria to implement a national minimum wage above N60,000. The Tripartite Committee is set to meet daily for the next week to finalize the details of the new minimum wage. Additionally, Organised Labour will convene a meeting with its organs to consider the commitment made by the President.
In a bid to end the nationwide strike declared by Organised Labour, both parties have engaged in extensive deliberations to reach a mutually agreeable solution. It was also emphasized that no worker would face victimization as a result of the industrial action.
The agreements were signed in Abuja on June 3rd, 2024, by representatives from the Federal Government and Organised Labour, including Mohammed Idris and Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), respectively. The Tripartite Committee will continue to work towards finalizing the new national minimum wage in the days ahead.
