Five students from Ejioku Community Grammar School have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the gang rape of female peers from another school. The arrests were made by the Amotekun Corps following reports of the disturbing incident.
The suspects, whose identities have only been partially disclosed, include Mayowa (17), Joshua (16), Seun (17), Sunday (16), and Basit (17). Notably, Seun and Sunday are half-brothers.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 5 when female students visited the Ejioku school after their exams. According to initial investigations, the accused lured the victims to a secluded area, claiming that other students were gathered there.
In interviews with local media, the assailants recounted the sequence of events, revealing their premeditated intentions. Mayowa, a senior student, stated that the group sought to deceive the girls, who believed they were about to engage in a harmless gathering. Upon arriving at the school farm, the accused then forcibly assaulted the victims, taking them one by one into different areas of the farm.
Joshua, another of the suspects, described his own experience of the event, claiming he initially hesitated but was subsequently pressured by his peers to participate. He acknowledged witnessing the assault, yet stated that he did not proceed with penetration.
The testimonies also indicated varying degrees of involvement among the students, with some trying to document the incidents. Notably, Seun’s half-brother Sunday, who has recently become a father himself, claimed he refrained from participating after discovering one of the victims was menstruating.
The case has since been escalated to the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation.
