…Hails Hitch-free, Peaceful Conduct of Exercise

Former deputy Governor, His Excellency Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi has congratulated the newly elected chairmen of the 33 local government councils, their deputies and the 389 councillors, with a call on them to see their election as a call to service at a very critical time.

Gbolarumi, in a statement following the official announcement of the April 27th local government councils election results by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC, equally congratulated the governing Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on the party’s victory at the poll.

Gbolarumi , in his statement during an emergency meeting with the representatives of his political group selected across the state, on Sunday, called to commend them for their active participation before and during the election, expressed satisfaction with the hitch-free nature of the poll as well as the peaceful conduct of voters during and after the exercise.

” I am particularly impressed with the orderly manner with which voters, observers and OSIEC officials as well as the people of the state conducted themselves throughout the process “.

” While I felicitate with you, I want to urge you all to see the mandates freely given to you by the electorate as a call to serve, and do your best to justify the confidence reposed in you”.

He described the local government as a critical tier, urged the newly elected LGA helmsmem to live above board and provide viable leadership that will impact positively on the lives of people at the grassroots in line with the vision and ideals of the PDP and the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

” You must also remain focused, accountable and work in the interest of the people”,

It will be recalled that the Oyo State Electoral Commission has declared PDP as winner of all the 33 Chairmanship and 389 Councillorship seats in accordance with the Electoral law that established the commission, and the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria

He urged the new chairmen to be fair and just to all irrespective of political interests and urged them to remain focused on the plight of the neglected majority by providing them with good governance and service delivery.

Gbolarumi advised them to initiate policies and programmes that would generate more revenue to the LGAs in order to make them economically viable.

The former deputy governor noted that the impact of government policies cannot be felt by a larger number of people without viable leadership at the local government level, hence the need for them to live above board and make sacrifices.

“I congratulate you all once again and enjoin you to involve our traditional institutions and other relevant stakeholders in the decision-making processes of your respective councils.

“The involvement will bridge the communication gap and guarantee ease of governance, ” he said.
Gbolarumi urged the new chairmen as Chief Security Officers of their respective councils to be proactive and ensure that they maintain relative peace and stability for socio-economic and political progress of the people of the state
