The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday, commended the chairman of Ido local government, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo’s administration for massively engaging in infrastructural development.

Makinde made the commendation during the commissioning of 10km Omi Adio/Ido road constructed by the local government chairman, Sheriff Adeojo.

The road project construction, according to the Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy title, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, has a newly completed line drainage access, culvert, art work, and asphaltic tarring.
The 10km Road project starts from Omi-Adio junction to Ido junction in Ido local and it covers 7 out of the 10 wards in the Ido LG.

“This road is important. Ido has 10 wards and this road covers seven of the 10 wards in the local government, that is to say dividends of democracy are being shared among these seven wards of Ido local government.

“The project was awarded by His Excellency on 23rd of January, 2023 to the tune of N5,310,942,37.46 and here we are today, commissioning the same road,” Sangodoyin said.

In his address at the occasion, Governor Seyi Makinde thanked residents of Ido for their support and steadfastness, reiterating the commitment and the dream of an evolving state through the development of grassroots infrastructurally, socially, and economically.

“We were on the campaign trail when I flagged off this road project on the 3rd of February, 2023. Then, I promised we would complete this road in record time because we believe that our infrastructure should hunt our economy. And we will continue to do that as a government. This project was not done by the state but by the Ido LG, which shows a good collaboration between the LG and state governments. So, this is an example of collaboration in government.

“Let me especially thank the contractors because, after the award, we started facing economic headwings. We awarded it in February and, by May, there was a change in government and they announced the removal of the fuel subsidy. So, the price of asphalt, which was a major component, went through the roof.

“The road has economic importance. It links a particular rail line here. With this and also with the one we just opened, which leads to the Orita Challenge and the plan we have for Owode Estate, this whole place will be a big hub for development.

“On my way here, I got to Omi-Adio market and realized that it would impede what we are planning to do here. So, what I would say to the local government is to conduct an enumeration to know the number of people who are currently in the market. Look for another site that is not on the road for us to move the marketers there and we tidy up the junction.

In his goodwill message, the council chairman, Sheriff Adeojo lauded the Lagos State Government under the leadership of his working Governor for always initiating people-oriented projects in the interest of the social and economic growth of the state.

“I must confess that this landmark achievement is made possible because of the Governor’s friendly policy, direction, and availability of funds to execute the project.

He acknowledged the governor’s effort to link the road both to the urban and rural areas, to make business transactions very effective and hitch-free.”
Earlier in his remark, the council Boss, Adeojo, noted that, in making life bearable for people of the Council, his administration has keyed into the governor’s four-point agenda – Education, Security, Education, and Economic expansion through infrastructure and agribusiness.
