Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has praised the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr) Mohood Lekan Balogun, for bringing peace and stability to the Olubadan Chieftaincy System during his reign. Makinde visited the family of the late Olubadan to offer his condolences and urge them to remain united.
During his visit, Governor Makinde highlighted Oba Balogun's significant role in ensuring that the traditional system did not collapse. He described his relationship with the deceased as one that transcended politics, and stated that his contributions to the progress of Ibadanland, Oyo State, and the traditional institution should be celebrated.
The governor also assured the family that the state government would give Oba Balogun a befitting burial. He disclosed that funds had already been approved for the Fidau Prayers and promised to do the necessary preparations for a state burial.
Makinde expressed his pain at the fact that Oba Balogun did not fulfill his desire to be the first Olubadan to occupy the ultramodern Olubadan palace. He emphasized the need for the family to remain united and assured them of his continuous support.
Chief Tajudeen Aremu, speaking on behalf of the Alli Iwo Family, and Mrs Funmilayo Osinowo, the first daughter of the late Oba Balogun, expressed their gratitude to Governor Makinde for his support and care during their father's lifetime.
The visit concluded with special prayers for the repose of the late Olubadan's soul by the Chaplain of the Government House, Pastor Layi Adisa, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Imam Abdulrasheed Abdulazeez.
