The recent explosion in Ibadan, Nigeria, has prompted Senator Sharafadeen Alli to sponsor a motion seeking support for the victims and intervention from the Federal Government.

The explosion, which occurred on January 16, resulted in loss of lives, property damage, and displacement of residents. Despite the prompt response of the Oyo State Police Command and other security agencies, the perpetrators of the explosion have not been apprehended.

In his motion titled 'Motion of Urgent National Importance', Senator Alli urged the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Oyo State government, to establish a committee to investigate the cause of the explosion and propose preventive measures. He also called on the National Assembly to direct the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected victims. Additionally, Senator Alli called for support from the Oyo State government in the reconstruction efforts and conducting integrity tests on structures in the vicinity.

The motion, along with four other motions related to insecurity in the country, was merged into a collective motion as a matter of national importance. The Senate observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims and called on the Federal Government and Security Chiefs to intensify efforts in addressing the security challenges in Nigeria. The Senate also resolved to invite security chiefs to discuss potential solutions to the ongoing issues.

This motion demonstrates the Senate's commitment to addressing the needs of the affected community and preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
