Residents of Band C areas under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have raised serious concerns over alleged wrongful billing, claiming they are being charged at Band A rates despite their designated lower tariff category. Attempts to report the issue have reportedly been ignored, leaving affected customers to suffer in silence.
A specific case has emerged from Bashorun, a neighborhood in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, where a customer discovered the discrepancy after recharging his prepaid meter. According to him, while other residents in the area receive approximately 130 units for a ₦10,000 recharge, his household receives only 44 units for the same amount.
"We have realized that we are the only house facing this issue in the entire area," he lamented. "Despite several efforts to report the anomaly, nothing has been done to rectify it."
The affected customer expressed frustration over the financial burden caused by the incorrect tariff classification, emphasizing that Band C areas are supposed to receive lower electricity rates compared to Band A, which enjoys a more stable power supply.
As complaints mount, customers are calling on IBEDC to urgently address the issue and ensure that electricity consumers are billed correctly based on their designated tariff bands.
