A Professional group, Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora (OID), has described the invasion of the Oyo State House of Assembly by Yoruba nation agitators as a threat to Nigeria peace and security.

It would be recalled that Yoruba nation agitators had on April 13 invaded the Oyo State House of Assembly complex located within the vicinity of the Government Secretariat and hoisted their flag.

The group stated this in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr Ayotomiwa Adebayo, on Friday in Ibadan.

Adebayo said that the invasion was an attack on democracy that directly undermined good governance, saying such posed a threat to peace and security.

He said that this nefarious activity and criminal acts are unacceptable for any purpose and must be out rooted by the state.

“The methods and practices of agitators, which cannot be justified under any circumstances, regardless of their motivation, are a treasonable felony capable of causing chaos in the state.

“We declares full solidarity with the Oyo Government and supports all measures taken to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to trial for acts of terrorism to preserve its security and stability,” he said.

Adebayo enjoined all security agencies in the state to work in harmony to prevent future occurrence.

He further applauded Governor Makinde’s swift steps taken to nip the invasion in the bud and supported his call for the establishment of State Police to complement conventional security agents.

Adebayo said that the call for establishment of state police became imperative to surmount the insecurity challenges facing different parts of the nation.

“Governor Makinde has made Oyo State an inclusive society that guarantees the principle of living together and a safe haven for the citizens to carry out their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation.

“Therefore, any individuals or groups that are hell-bent on disrupting the democratic ecosystem enjoyed in the state will not succeed but meet their waterloo,” he said.

The group commended the security agencies in the state for their quick response in stopping the invaders from carrying out their illegal activities and called on the citizens to be vigilant. ●NAN
