Gabon has become the latest African country to be overtaken by the military, and the development has been attracting mixed reactions among members of the public, and of those who reacted was the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.

According to Sahara Reporters on Wednesday August 30, a group of soldiers appeared on television announcing an end "to the current regime" and the cancellation of the election that, according to official results, was won by President Ali Bongo Ondimba.

In his reaction to the development, Fani-Kayode said that he is not surprised that this is happening, because he had earlier sounded this warning in an article he wrote before now.

Fani-Kayode disclosed that President Ali Bongo Ondimba whose regime has just been toppled, alongside his late father, spent a combined 53 years in power.

In the statement he released via his verified Twitter handle, he asked if ECOWAS will also threaten to invade Gabon with the military the way they threatened Niger Republic.

He said - "Sadly, another coup has taken place in Africa. This time it is in the nation of Gabon where President Ali Bongo, who together with his late father Alhaji Bongo, had been in power for the last 53 years has been toppled and removed from office.

"It appears that the warning I gave in my last essay, titled, " Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?", was prophetic.

"I am not surprised that this has happened and frankly we should expect more coups in the Francophone countries of West and Central Africa for the reasons I stated in the essay.

"I wonder whether ECOWAS or the African Union will threaten to invade Gabon as well."
