●The Father Arraigned in Court
The Rosebud School in Idimu, Lagos, has expelled three students following a violent altercation involving their father, Ayofe Kolawole, who was caught on video assaulting a teacher and a sanitary worker. The incident occurred on October 10, 2024, and the disturbing footage quickly went viral.
In the video, 44-year-old Kolawole can be seen physically attacking Elizabeth Ogri, a female teacher, by slapping and striking her. He subsequently turned his aggression towards Agnes Paul, a staff member who attempted to record the assault. After realizing he was being filmed, Kolawole intensified his efforts to stop Ogri from documenting the attack.
Vivian Shonekan, the school's Public Relations Officer, verified the expulsion of Kolawole's children, stating that despite the family's attempts to apologize and reach a settlement, the school was resolute in its decision. “There was no issue with settling, but the school firmly decided that their three children could not return,” Shonekan explained.
Agnes Paul, a mother of four, recounted the traumatic ordeal, indicating that she continues to suffer from injuries sustained during the attack. “I’ve been coughing at night and experiencing chest pain. The school has been covering my hospital bills, but I need further tests,” Paul stated.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding earlier in the week when Kolawole's child complained of feeling unwell. Ogri had provided first aid by closing windows and turning off the fan to alleviate discomfort. However, Kolawole later accused her of attempting to apply a “black substance” on his child, misunderstanding the kernel oil used by Ogri for a whitlow treatment.
In a coerced response to Kolawole’s demands, Ogri initially refused to sign a statement denying any wrongdoing but eventually complied under pressure. This misunderstanding escalated into the violent confrontation captured in the viral video.
Kolawole was arrested and brought before the court on Tuesday, October 22, as confirmed by Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who announced that charges of physical assault have been filed against him.
