A 38-year-old man, Gabriel Iliya Magaji, from Masaka in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has reportedly taken his own life following suspicions of infidelity involving his wife. The incident, which has left the local community in shock, was confirmed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nansel Ramhan.
The police became involved after a staff member from Crystal School Masaka reported finding an unidentified man hanging in one of the school's classrooms around 7 am on Monday. DSP Ramhan detailed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately led a team to the scene, where they untied the body and transported it to General Hospital, Mararaba. A doctor there confirmed the man's death, and his body has since been placed in the morgue.
While the circumstances surrounding Magaji's death have raised numerous questions, police have not found a suicide note at the scene. DSP Ramhan stated, "The police have commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of his death," emphasizing that no conclusions can be drawn until the investigation is complete.
Speculations have surfaced on social media, with one post claiming that Magaji took his life after confronting his wife, who allegedly confessed to having sexual relations with his friends in exchange for money. According to the post, the wife reportedly stated, "His friends give me money after having sex with me, which I use to buy food that he and our three children eat."
