In a significant development for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, was elected as the new National President during the Union's Quadrennial Delegate Conference held on Saturday.

Akinsanya was the sole candidate for the position, leading to a unanimous decision by delegates representing the four Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti. The election took place at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat located along the Osogbo/Ikirun road.

The proceedings were under the watchful eye of the acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore, who emphasized the strict adherence to the Union’s Constitution in the electoral process. Represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, the Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, Issa-Ore confirmed that the Southwest zone had followed all constitutional requirements in electing Oluomo as the new President.

In addition to Oluomo's election, Tajudeen Agbede was appointed as Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was elected as a Trustee from the zone.

Following the ceremonial oath of office, a visibly emotional Akinsanya expressed a heartfelt call for unity and peace within the Union. "I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well," he stated, rallying members to commit to protecting the Union's integrity. "This is our union, and we must be devoted to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood," he affirmed, surrounded by family and supporters.
