Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio engaged in the abuse of women during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Atiku made the claim in an interview with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the program Untold Stories. The allegation surfaced in the wake of a sexual harassment complaint against Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

When asked whether similar accusations or corruption allegations had been made against Akpabio during his time as governor, Atiku responded affirmatively.

"Yes. Not only was he corrupt, but he also had a history of abusing women," he stated.

Regarding his political future and the possibility of running for president in 2027 or leading an opposition coalition, Atiku emphasized the need for credible leadership.

“In 2014, we had a similar merger with multiple candidates contesting. One person emerged, and we all supported him. Nigeria has never been in greater need of credible leadership than now,” he said.

On the National Assembly's swift approval of the state of emergency in Rivers State, Atiku expressed no surprise.

“The leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that. They could do anything. The Senate President is known for such behavior, even as a governor,” he remarked.
