The Nigerian film industry, popularly known as Nollywood, is in mourning following the sudden passing of actor and movie producer Shina Sanyaolu. His death was confirmed on Instagram by Bolaji Amusan, the president of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), who shared a heartfelt tribute on September 12, stating, “Sleep well uncle Shina Sanyaolu.”

Sanyaolu's colleagues and media personalities have taken to social media to express their grief and honor his memory. Veteran actor Prince Jide Kosoko shared a poignant tribute, describing Shina as "a beacon of kindness and warmth." Kosoko reflected on Sanyaolu’s generosity and his role in welcoming artists to the UK during the 1980s. He wrote: “Shina, your generosity knew no bounds, and your spirit touched countless lives. You were truly a rare gem... Rest in peace, my brother. You will be deeply missed.”

Media personality Doyin Ola also expressed her shock over Sanyaolu's passing, sharing a photo of them together from an industry event. In her post, she reminisced about their meetings in both professional and casual settings, describing him as an "easygoing and receptive" filmmaker. “It’s heartbreaking. May your soul rest in peace, Egbon Shina Sanyaolu. The film industry has truly lost a rare gem,” she noted.

Journalist Jimi Akinniyi succinctly captured the sentiment of many with his message: “Absolutely and Completely Unbelievable that you’re gone. Rest In Peace Shina Sanyaolu.”

As tributes continue to pour in, the legacy of Shina Sanyaolu as a beloved figure in Nollywood remains etched in the hearts of those he influenced and the many he supported throughout his life.
