Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe and her husband Kazim Adeoti are facing a significant setback after losing their Lagos mansion to a fire. The incident occurred recently, prompting Aigbe to share a video showcasing the damage to her property. Despite her devastation, the actress expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the tragic event.
"Devastated! Thank God no life was lost! It is well," Aigbe posted on social media, garnering an outpouring of support from her fellow industry colleagues. Prominent figures in the film community quickly voiced their sympathies, with comments from actors like Jamiu Azeez, Timini, and Nancy Isime all emphasizing relief over the absence of fatalities.
This incident comes amidst Aigbe’s preparations for the release of her new movie, scheduled to hit cinemas later this month.
This unfortunate event follows a series of similar incidents in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Just last month, actress Uche Ogbodo lost two of her stores—one to flooding and another due to government demolition—expressing her heartbreak over the sudden loss of years of hard work. In a parallel story, Laura Ikeji revealed that as she cared for her newborn, her beauty store was engulfed in flames. Despite these setbacks, she maintained a positive outlook, noting that material possessions can be replaced.
Last year also saw other celebrities suffer similar fates. Bidemi Kosoko and Orezi both experienced devastating fire losses—Orezi's home, valued at over 300 million Naira, was destroyed while he attended a meeting. Small Doctor also lost his mansion to flames, while AY's Lagos house caught fire, resulting in substantial property damage while his family was abroad.
In April 2023, a fire also broke out at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, damaging part of the royal residence.
