The self-styled Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, the ruler of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States, has been stabbed to death by his own sister.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 29, 2024, during an altercation at the Oyotunji village. According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, the communications center received a report of a stabbing around 2:45 p.m.

When the officers arrived at the scene on Bryant Lane, they found the 47-year-old victim, Adejuyigbe Adefunmi, with stab wounds. The officers immediately transported him to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigators identified the assailant as Akiba Kasale Meredith, the 53-year-old sister of the deceased. Meredith had reportedly fled the crime scene on foot, but the officers were able to trace her shortly afterward and arrest her on charges of murder.

Meredith is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Centre.

It is worth noting that Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II had previously spoken to the Punch newspaper in 2017, revealing that he had seven wives scattered across Oyotunji, Virginia, and other locations.
