In a major boost to its renewable energy agenda, the Oyo State Government, in partnership with private investors, has brought an end to decades of darkness in Ajia town and 25 other communities through the installation of solar hybrid mini grids.

The solar revolution, spearheaded by Governor Seyi Makinde, has transformed the socio-economic landscape of these rural areas, which had long struggled with the lack of reliable electricity supply.

Prior to the project, Ajia town and its neighboring communities relied on costly and inefficient generators, candles, and lanterns to power their homes and businesses. This situation had stifled growth and development in the region.

However, the installation of the 100kW solar panel, 100kVA diesel generator, and comprehensive distribution network has been a game-changer. Residents can now access clean, affordable, and sustainable electricity, fueling the revival of local enterprises and improving the overall quality of life.

"The solar hybrid mini grid has been a true blessing for our community," said Ajia town resident, Fatima Balogun. "We no longer have to worry about the high cost of fueling generators or the inconvenience of living in darkness. This project has brought new hope and opportunities to our doorsteps."

The Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Energy, has played a pivotal role in the success of this initiative. Providing infrastructure support and funding, the administration has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to renewable energy and its transformative impact on rural communities.

"This solar revolution is a key priority for Governor Seyi Makinde's administration," said Seun Ashamu, the State Commissioner for Energy. "By partnering with renowned renewable energy experts, we are able to deliver reliable and sustainable power solutions that improve the lives of our citizens."

The solar hybrid mini grids now serve not only Ajia town but also 25 other communities across the Inukan Local Council Development Area, including Otefon, Atiba, Agbaruru, Iwajowa, Elekonkan, Adafila, Orire, Abuja Leather, Itwesiwaju, Olokoto, Oko-Ile, RCDC, Ahoro Dada, Sanni Sala, Orita Orisunmibare, Arget, Igbori, Alaropo Nla, Ayegun Wasimi, Overate, Kofeogun, Iregba Oja, and Budo Are.
